Casey at the Bat - The Mime
Borough President James Molinaro has declared April as "Art of the
Game" month on Staten Island! These projects celebrate the blending
of sports and the arts . Sponsored by SI Bank & Trust Foundation and
National Executive Service Corps “Casey at the Bat” the well-known
poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is the most famous literary piece
about baseball ever written. It takes the listener from the beginning
of Casey’s humorously arrogant stand at bat through its fateful end.
The piece has been called the only truly great comic poem written
by an American. Read by a narrator and accompanied by a mime performance,
Sundog’s theatrical piece illustrates the comic side of the game of
baseball, and the unfolding event’s emotional impact on Casey. At
the culmination of the performance, the mimes wordlessly invite children
in the audience to come up on stage and learn simple mime technique,
which has always been an audience favorite. With mimes Kevin Milnes
and Susan Fenley. Running time: 30 minutes.
