SUNDOG THEATRE PRESENTS “SCENES FROM THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY ‘04”
24-HOUR PLAY PROJECT BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND WITH NEW PLAYS

Staten Island, NY, March 2004.
Due to its popularity last year, Sundog Theatre has decided to bring back its Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry, with all new plays. Six playwrights, six directors, and thirteen actors will create six short plays within 24 hours. Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry are written on and about the Ferry on Friday the 19th and performed at the Muddy Cup Coffee House Theatre Saturday evening, March 20th, fully staged and rehearsed. The plays will be repeated on Sunday and the following weekend.

Audiences and artists were so enthusiastic about last year’s project, we decided to do it again with new plays,” states Susan Fenley, Sundog’s producing artistic director. “Some of our artists and technical people have returned and we have a few new faces.” Local artists include Bobalooo, Ann Linge, Cathy O’Hare, and others. In addition, Staten Island author, director, and screenwriter Mike Tierno, Wagner Theatre chairman Christopher Catt, and daytime TV director Jake Turner will be part of this year’s project.

Joseph Daly, coordinating director of Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry, recently directed the past five South Shore Rotary Club shows including its recent fundraiser, Broadway Rhythm. “Sundog’s show takes Island theatre to an exciting level.” Mr. Daly states. “We have hired six wonderful writers and are looking forward to their creative work. The project is challenging for everyone--they must be fast and good. Directors need to interpret quickly, and actors have no time to second-guess themselves. For their auditions, actors had to memorize a two-minute monologue overnight to see if they were quick studies. This isn’t for the faint of heart.”
