Sundog Theatre and The Conference House present Colonial Kids Summer Camp
Sponsored by Staten Island Assemblyman Lou Tobacco

Assemblyman Lou Tobacco (R,I,C-Staten Island) is pleased to announce Colonial Kids Theater Camp, July 27 through August 7, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Conference House at 7455 Hylan Blvd. in Staten Island.

Colonial Kids Theater Camp, a collaboration of Sundog Theatre, the NYC Parks Department, and the Conference House, is being sponsored by Assemblyman Lou Tobacco.  The camp will be open to 25 young people grades 5 through 12.  Camp participants will be selected through a lottery process.  Those interested in attending the two-week camp should contact Assemblyman Tobacco’s office at (718) 967-5194 for a registration form which should be returned to his district office at 4062 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10308.

Applications for the camp
must be submitted by by 4 p.m. on Friday, July 17.  Individuals who are selected to the camp will notified the following Monday, July 20.   Click here to download the application.

Camp goers will learn about the historic Conference House and view demonstrations of colonial life throughout the two weeks.  Based on knowledge gained at camp, participants –
with the guidance of the Sundog Theatre teaching artist – will write a short play about the events at the Conference House.  The last day of camp will include a culminating performance that takes the audience through moments in colonial history. Participants re-create famous events, becoming historical figures. While having fun, they also learn about the reasoning, actions, and personalities of these makers of history.

Colonial Kids gives 25 young people an in-depth understanding of people and events that shaped our country's history. The camp also teaches them how theatrical productions are put together, as well as helping them to explore potential careers.

Camp qualifications and requirements:
·        Young people between the ages of 10 and 18
·        Must be interested in creating and participating in a theatrical production
·        Willing to commit to the entire two weeks
·        Parents must pick up their children by 4 p.m. sharp—no exceptions
·        Participants must bring their own lunches.

The camp takes place July 27 through August 7, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m.  to 4 p.m. at the Conference House at 7455 Hylan Blvd. in Staten Island.
