Six playwrights, six directors, and thirteen performers will create an evening of excitement for Islanders…all produced within 24 hours. Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry, presented by Sundog Theatre, are written on and about the Ferry on Friday, February 28, and performed at the Muddy Cup Coffee House Theatre the next evening, fully staged and rehearsed. Performances will be repeated in five subsequent shows.

Sundog has hired a number of Staten Island’s writers, directors, and actors for the project that is partially funded by the Staten Island arts council (COAHSI). Bill Conte, Jill Jichetti, Ann Linge, and Paul Johnson are just a few locals who are lending their talents to the project. Sundog has engaged as project director Leslie (Hoban) Blake, a director and entertainment journalist from Manhattan with extensive theatre experience in many capacities. “Artists from various Staten Island theatre companies have come together on this production. We are thrilled to work with this collaboration of incredible talent and technical expertise,” states Susan Fenley, Sundog’s artistic director and co-producer of the event.

“This is theatre at its most exciting and creative. We don’t know what each play will be like until the day of performance. Instead of the usual four weeks of rehearsal, this is virtually reality theatre. The actors have to rely on their technique and experience, and they must be at the top of their game. Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry will take the audience on a trip they won’t forget,” says Fenley.

The project requires the playwrights to be skillful and innovative. Actors must be quick studies in memorization and perceptive in character development. Directors must be visionary and work efficiently within the time constraints. Every moment counts.
